NATIONAL:



SEXUAL HARASSMENT BY SUPREME COURT JUDGE:

ü A young lawyer has alleged that she was sexually harassed by a Supreme Court judge in December 2012.
ü The woman graduated from University of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata.
ü She said she was harassed in a hotel room when Delhi had erupted against the brutal gang rape of Nirbhaya.
ü She says that the Judge retired recently.
ü  
Note: Interestingly a bench headed by the former CJI Altamas Kabir on July 17 ordered for setting up of anti—sexual harassment committee. It started functioning. The court framed regulations to protect women lawyers from sexual harassment at the hands of male counter parts within the court complex, including inside chambers within the court zone.

AAP FUNDING WILL BE PROBED:

ü AAP: Aam Aadmi
ü The party announced that it received funds of Rs. 19 cr.
ü The central government announced that will probe the funding.
ü The probe is related to if AAP received money from foreign donors, if so. It is the violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.





CSR INITIATIVES IN SCHOOLS:

ü CSR – Corporate Social Responsibility
ü NGO – Non Governmental Organization
ü Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of trusteeship that implies the corporate to part with their wealth for the benefit of the poor is the need of the hour.
ü The corporate giving money to NGOs, but it is not being done systematically. 
ü The Companies Act says that all companies with a turnover of Rs 1,000/- cr and more or net worth of Rs 500/- crore and more or net profit of Rs. 5 crore or more would have to spend every year at least 2 % of three year average profit on CSR activities.
ü Nearly 9000 companies would come under the ambit of compulsory CSR.
ü From next financial year onwards it is expected that Rs. 20,000/- crore would be collected.

ELECTION COMMISSION:

ü EC issued instructions asking candidates to open a separate and joint bank account along with candidate’s election agent.
ü This is exclusively for the purpose of election expenditure.
ü The account details must be submitted to the returning officer along with the nomination form.
ü All expenditure needs to be made by the candidate only from this account.
ü All receipts would be deposited in this account only, irrespective of its source.
ü From the date of declaration of the results within 30 days the candidate has to submit a self certified copy of the statement of this bank account would have to be submitted along with the statement of expenditure.

INTERNATIONAL:



BANGLADESH CABINET RESIGNS:

ü The cabinet ministers resigned to facilitate the formation of all-party interim (temporary) government to oversee the forthcoming general elections.
ü The ministers submitted the resignation to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
ü Some ministers would continue if the resignation is not accepted by the PM.
ü But, the main opposition party BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) and its 17 allies demanded for the formation of non-party government. For this the PM has to submit the resignation.






ICJ RULING IN FAVOUR OF CAMBODIA:

ü ICJ – International Court of Justice (Hague, Netherlands)
ü The dispute that is related to the year 1907 related to the maps drawn between Cambodia and Thailand during French colonial rule.
ü The original ruling was given by ICJ in 1962.
ü The judges in ICJ unanimously held that that a ruling of 1962 by ICJ gave Cambodia sovereignty over the 1,000 year old Preah Vihear temple.
ü Hence Thailand is under obligation to withdraw from that territory.
