NOTA and Repoll:
ü NOTA – None of the Above Option
ü On October 27, 2013 the Supreme Court gave a path breaking verdict.
ü The apex court said that the voters have a right to reject all the candidates contesting in polls in a constituency by pressing NOTA button.
ü The Supreme Court on November 25, 2013 refused to direct the election commission to hold fresh polls in case the majority of the electorate exercises NOTA.
ü The court said it is for the parliament to decide and amend the law and also said it is too early to pass such direction.


AARUSHI CASE:
ü A special CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) Court on November 26, 2013 sentenced the Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar to life imprisonment.
ü This is with reference to double murder case of Aarushi and Hemraj (domestic help).
ü The case is related to the incident of May 16, 2008.



CBI AND DOPT:

ü CBI - Central Bureau of Investigation
ü DoPT – Department of Personnel and Training
ü The CBI works under the control of DoPT.
ü The CBI told the Supreme Court the controlling of CBI adversely affects the efficacy and independence of functioning.
ü The CBI is insisting on ex-officio power of secretary to its Director to reduce bureaucratic layers of scrutiny.

SNOOPING SCANDAL

ü The Gujarat government constituted a two member committee to probe into the snooping scandal.
ü The committee was asked to submit the report within 3 months
ü The members in the committee are a retired Gujarat High Court Judge Sugnyaben K Bhatt and former additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat KC Kapoor.


TEHELKA:

ü The women journalist who accused Tarun Tejpal of sexually assaulted her submitted the resignation.
ü Tarun Tejpal moved Delhi High Court for anticipatory bail which comes to hearing on November 27, 2013.
ü Some of the employees on the organization also submitted their resignations protesting against the decision of the management for trying to protect Tarun Tejpal.
ü Tehelka has constituted a committee to probe into the matter.
ü Urvashi Bhutalia a noted feminist and publisher refused to head the panel.


THE SC ON CHARGE SHEETED PERSONS:
ü SC – Supreme Court
ü The SC asked the Central government to come out with comprehensive changes in law before 2014 elections.
ü This is to prevent the persons charge sheeted in heinous crimes from contesting elections.

ü The indigenously developed UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles) have been inducted into Pakistan army and air force.
