Birth anniversary of C V Raman:

ü Today is the 125th birth anniversary of C V Raman
ü He was awarded Nobel prize at the age of 42 for ‘Raman Effect’
ü At the age of 66 awarded with ‘Bharata Ratna’ the highest honour in India.
ü Note: Raman Effect is also called Raman Scattering.





BCCI UNDER RTI ACT SOON?

ü BCCI – Board of Control for Cricket in India
ü RTI – Right To Information
ü ASSOCHAM – Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry in India
ü ASSOCHAM recommended the Ministry of youth Affairs and Sports to bring BCCI under the ambit of RTI Act.
ü ASSOCHAM maintained that BCCI is not a registered National Sports Federation as it does not take any grants from the government. Hence BCCI cannot be brought under the preview of RTI Act.
ü There is a proposed bill in the Parliament by National Sports Development Bill.
ü If this bill is passed by the Parliament then BCCI will not be permitted to use the word ‘India’.
ü Under the new bill only those federations that come under the RTI ambit will have the right to use ‘India’ as the team name.








BJP DEMANDS FOR SPG PROTECTION FOR ITS PRIME MINISTERIAL CANDIDATE:

  •   SPG – Special Protection Group
  •   BJP – Bharatiya Janata Party
  •   BJP demanded for SPG protection to Narendra Modi after Patna blasts at   the site of his rally in October 2013.
  •    The central government ruled our SPG protection to Narendra Modi and said the Chief Minister already enjoying the ‘Z-plus’ protection by NSG (National Security Guards) commandos.   
  •   Note: SPG was set up in the year 1985. This is meant for providing security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and their relatives.

AP MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATION LAUNCHES 100 DAYS CLEANLINESS DRIVE:

ü AP – Andhra Pradesh
ü The municipal administration has issued a circular to 182 municipalities and directed them to launch 100 day cleanliness drive.
ü Littering, spitting, urinate or dump garbage in public places in urban areas will attract heavy penalties.
ü The administration in the past tried to ban the smoking in public places but it proved to be a failure.






AFSPA EXTENDED:

ü AFSPA – Armed Forces Special Power Act
ü The Union Home Ministry has extended the AFSPA in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya for six more months from November 4. 2013.






RBI PERMISSION TO FOREIGN BANKS:

  RBI – Reserve Bank of India
  •   The RBI permitted the wholly owned subsidiary of foreign banks to acquire domestic private sector banks and also can set up branches anywhere in the country.

  •   They were also permitted to be listed in the stock exchange.









GOODS TRAIN ENGINE WITH CABINS AND AC:

ü It has been named as ‘Vijay’.
ü This is manufactured in diesel locomotive located in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh)
ü It was inaugurated by the Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge.
ü The specialty of Vijay is that the engine has 2 air conditioned cabins on each side.
