WORLD LAKES:


ü  A lake is a body of still water.

ü  This is the largest salt water lake in Turkey. (Turkey capital city: Ankara).


ü  It is a saline lake.

ü  The water in Lake Van is brackish.


·        Brackish water: This is the water that has more salinity than fresh water but not as much as Sea water.



LAKE VICTORIA:

ü  This is located in Africa.


ü  This is the largest lake in Africa.

ü  Victoria Lake spreads over Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.

ü  The Victoria Lake is named after Queen Victoria of UK.

ü  This is the largest tropical Lake in the World.

ü  This is the World’s second largest fresh water lake. (First is Lake Superior in North America).


CASPIAN SEA:

ü  This is the World’s largest lake.


ü  This is the World’s smallest geological Ocean.

ü  This has no outflows (endorheic).

ü  This has inflow from the North; hence the water in the North region is fresh.

ü  It is one of the five Great Lakes in the North America.

ü  These are located in North America.

ü  These are located on USA and Canada border.

ü  It consists of

v  Lake Superior

v  Lake Michigan

v  Lake Huron

v  Lake Erie

v  Lake Ontario.

ü  This is located in North America.


ü  This has the longest coastline lake in the World.


GREAT BEAR LAKE:

ü  This is located in Canada.

LAKE BAIKAL:

ü  This is located in Russia.


ü  This is located in the Siberian region.

ü  This is the deepest lake in the World.

ü  It is a continental rift type lake.

·        The transparency or clearness of water in Seas or lakes is measured by Secchi Disk.

·        The Secchi Disk is created in the year 1865 by Pietro Angelo Sechhi Sj of Italy.

·        Through Secchi Disk the transparency of water is measured.

·        This is related to water turbidity.

·        (Turbidity is the cloudiness of water caused by individual particles).

·        This measure is known as Secchi depth.
